Day 105 Bags

Posted by themirrenlee on 14/04/2012

I am surrounded by bags.

Bags of stuff for the Op Shop.

Bags of stuff to give to my daughter.

Bags of stuff for eBay when I come back from Sydney in 2 months.

Bags of stuff to take to Sydney soon.

Bags of rubbish.

Thank goodness for huge plastic bags – boxes are not only hard to come by, but they’re also harder for this weak little body to maneuver.

The more stuff I let go of, the more I see those bags of “orphan” stuff going to new homes, the lighter I feel.

I know many people feel more secure with lots of stuff in their lives. My mother, for one, used to have trunkfuls of clothes and items she would constantly buy at op shops and fetes; trunks that she didn’t even open very much, but just wanted to know they were there because she had been a deprived child of the Depression era.

I, on the other hand, feel too much stuff in my life becomes a burden of responsibility. It all has to be looked after, places found for it to live, and I start to feel crowded. Sort of like having too many children! The biggest problem, of course, is that I like to move on a fairly regular basis. Having a lot of stuff is NOT conducive to an easy move. ESPECIALLY without strong health and stamina.

So I continue to fill bags, and wonder where all this stuff came from. I’ve only been back in Melbourne from Sydney for about 3 years. I arrived with basically nothing and moved into a furnished flat.

Just proves what I’ve said before: create a vacuum, express your wish as to what you want it filled with, and pretty soon you, too, will be buying bags in bulk to get rid of the excess. Of course, if it’s a lover you want, maybe you can’t have too many!

I’m just bein’ a bag lady …

Purging is one of my favorite activities! I don’t like “stuff” it creates clutter and clutter creates chaos! I think, especially for those of us with Fibro, having order and open space are essential to our peace of mind 🙂

    • Even Feng Shui says clutter is bad for our spiritual peace, and I really feel that. I’m still looking at a lot of stuff that needs resorting, but everything I get rid of feels like another layer of burden falling from my shoulders. And I agree with you that especially with the “chaos of chronic conditions” we need order and open space. I think you’ve led me to a great alliteration there: clutter creates chaos for chronic conditions. 🙂
